G U I L T Y

    The primary victim in this case was the defendant's natural daughter, now 21 years old.  She described a pattern of forcible rape along with physical and psychological abuse, beginning shortly after her sixteenth birthday.  This continued for the next three and one half years.  Although the defendant denied the accusations, the victim as well as Cobb County detectives testified he had asserted to them his sexual activity with the victim was consistent with a practice in his homeland of India.  There the father prepared his daughter for marriage by having sexual intercourse with her at home.  Other witnesses familiar with customs of India denied knowledge of any such practice or custom.  The defendant was sentenced to a 40 year term of imprisonment.  Under current guidelines and statutes, the defendant will be required to serve the entire 40 years.
