CHILD MOLESTATION

AGGRAVATED SEXUAL BATTERY
  -  GUILTY

Bishop was accused of entering into illegal sexual relations with a child who was 12 years old at the time the incident began.  The parents overheard a telephone conversation which deeply concerned them.  As a result,  the parents began recording the phone conversations.  The tapes were turned over to the CRIMES AGAINST CHILDREN UNIT of the Cobb Police Department.  The investigation resulted in the above charges being brought against Bishop.

The defense asked the court to prevent the state from using the tape recorded conversations during the trial.  The Appellate Court granted this request.  As a result of the rulings made by the Courts, the State legislature changed the law to allow parents to record the conversations of their own children in their home under certain circumstances.

Bishop went to trial in October and the tape recordings were not used.  The jury found him guilty of all charges.  The sentence imposed by the Judge requires Bishop to serve 30 years in prison, followed by 10 years on probation. Bishop will have to serve almost all of the 30 years before he is eligible for probation.
